Hampton Children’s Playhouse was established in 1978 by a group of local mothers looking for a place to get together and watch their children play safely. 

The Playhouse provides a welcoming, relaxed, caring and safe environment where parents/carers and pre-school children can play, socialise and learn together. As a member, you can visit MONDAY TO FRIDAY 9:30am to 5pm no bookings required.


Membership benefits include:

  • Play on safe, toddler-friendly equipment and with hundreds of age-appropriate toys

  • Participate in organised activities, including music, dancing, story-time sessions, as well as animal visits

  • Use all the craft, paint, play dough your kid's heart desires (without having the mess at home!)

  • Attend events such as Easter and Christmas parties

  • Book the Playhouse for birthday parties on the weekends (party bookings are for members ONLY)

  • Meet locals, make friends and share experiences



Types of 'Play'


On Session (members on duty) 

Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 12pm during government school terms.

Entertainment and events are scheduled in these sessions during term time.

All members assist in the daily running of the Playhouse through a duty roster that is published each term. When you are on duty (no more than twice per term), you are responsible for closing up at the end of the session (11am to 12:15pm).  

Responsibilities for people on duty include:

  • Vacuum

  • Mop

  • Sweep the outdoor area

  • Change bin liners

  • Take in/out bins to the street

  • Turn off lights and lock up

Off Session (no members on duty) 

Any other times (12 noon to 5pm during term) including school holidays (9.30am to 5pm). Members are not on duty and it is your responsibility to tidy up after your children.

Occasional special activities are planned for members during these times too and are advertised on our members Facebook group.



Other Info


Working Bee

There is a working bee organised for each term. Members participate once each year to ensure the Playhouse equipment and gardens are kept in good condition. It is optional, however if you or your partner participate you will receive $100 back into your bank account after attending.



A committee is formed each year to oversee the smooth operation of the playhouse and to discuss and decide on policy issues. If you would like to join the committee please contact President, Catalina Ikin to discuss available roles.
